We caught up with member Sydney Shuler—New York born and Jersey raised, she's a passionate storyteller with an impressive background.
What brought you to charlottesville?
I graduated from Hampton University in Hampton Roads, VA with a B.A. in Journalism in 2022 and moved to Charlottesville that same year after accepting a position as the UVA-beat reporter for The Daily Progress.
What are you doing currently? And how did you get into this line of work?
I am the Communications Specialist at The Equity Center at the University of Virginia. One of the first stories I wrote [for The Daily Progress} was about The Equity Center's youth empowerment program, Starr Hill Pathways. I continued following the center's work in the community and, when they were ready to hire a communications specialist, The Equity Center team invited me to be the one to tell our story.
What excites you about this?
Amplifying community voices through social media, website management, and other communications campaigns.
