Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives

Antiracism is a daily commitment. We pledge to take tangible, purposeful, and proactive steps toward achieving racial and social equity at Common House through the following initiatives. We welcome feedback, criticism, suggestions, and ideas for ongoing initiatives to ensure all voices are represented within our community.

Members

Common Ground. At Common House, we are committed to building a vibrant community that incorporates many different voices and perspectives. Through our Common Ground program, we offer year-long membership to emerging leaders and creators in our community who otherwise may not be able to afford to join. In January 2021, we welcomed our first group of Common Ground Members. Since, then we’ve continued the program across all our locations, welcoming a group that’s at least 65% diverse with a 60-40 female to male split.

Member Focuses. Each month, we work to highlight our members and staff, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other underrepresented communities through our ongoing Member Focus series. Our goal is to truly amplify their stories and voices on our broader platform. If you or someone you know would like to be included in this interview series, please feel free to reach out.

Member base. Our goal is that our membership base represents the demographic makeup of each of our markets. As such, we created a demographic survey that is sent to each new member with the goal of ensuring that our membership recruitment efforts and resources are put towards making sure we are growing our underrepresented/minority populations within our membership.

Art & Programming

Programming. Common House Programming hits its highest goal when people from different backgrounds are connecting over shared experience. To that point, we intentionally partner with members and leaders in our communities to provide classes, workshops, and entertainment from a diverse set of voices — across race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender — that authentically represents the cities in which we inhabit.

Artists. Our art is sourced from artists coming from a breadth of cultures, perspectives, and traditions. Further, each House is dedicated to featuring stand out pieces from local artists in the community.
