Staff Focus: Corrine Adams
A long overdue introduction to someone who's been keeping us going day-in and day-out for the last year and half. Corrine has become such a pillar to a day-in-the-life here at Common House, it's hard to imagine a time before her. Whether she's managing the floor or creating beautiful latte art, she always brings her best to the table.
Where are you from?
I'm from Nelson County, but I've always kind of been in Charlottesville. I spent a lot of time here growing up.
What brought you to common House?
What brought me here was actually Joshua Charles! When I was working at Trager Brothers, he was a regular there. He’d always come in and he would get his iced matcha with oat milk.
I had been thinking about making a change and he was like, “Hey, have you ever heard about Common House?” I hadn’t. He told me to send him my resume and he’d get it in the hands of the General Manager there. Truly, like a week later, I had an interview with Aaron Bell.
And now, you know, Josh is always coming into Common House and getting his iced matcha with oat milk.
tell us about your time at common House
I started in January 2023 as a server, then became a lead server, and by December that year I’d transitioned to my current role as a shift manager and lead server. So these days, my role shifts between serving and managing the floor.
It's cool, I've been trusted with a lot of responsibility so quick. And for being my age, especially so. In other jobs, I've felt overlooked because I'm not 21. So it feels really nice to be seen here—that's something that I really appreciate about this space.
What excites you about what you’re doing now?
I like seeing the members every day. Everyone here is a regular, and that sense of familiarity is just a nice feeling; it's comforting. I love talking to people. This job makes me feel fulfilled. And my coworkers are amazing. I'm excited because I’ve learned that I love hospitality. I didn't know I wanted to go into hospitality until this job. And, being here, I think this is what I want to pursue.
And even when we have tough weeks, I feel good because I know that my managers—they still see me. And what I do here, it feels good.
What do you get up to outside of work?
I hang out with my roommates. l enjoy going out to concerts and things like that, but honestly I also love to sit at home and watch a movie or a show with my friends.
What’re you watching right now?
We’re watching Your Honor right now. With Bryan Cranston. It's set in New Orleans and is about this judge and his son. The son is involved in a hit and run, and there’s a cover up. It’s really good, it’s a crime-drama, but there are still funny moments. I recommend it!
Care to share a fun fact?
I think a lot of members already know this about me, because I have a tattoo of her—but I used to have a pet deer. I raised and bottle fed her. She lived in my room. She was very small when I met her, maybe two weeks old. She was still very tiny and had her spots. Her name was April. Her story doesn't have a great ending. But she was very special to me when I had her.
Yeah, I've always loved animals. That was actually one of the things I was thinking about before hospitality, to do something with animals. Whether it be rehabbing or some other avenue to help them. I'm a Virgo. What can I say?
